Jonjo Shelvey could be on his way out of St James Park only five months after arriving, according to reports on Thursday morning.

Signed from Swansea for around £12m in January, the Shields Gazette say that their information is that Crystal Palace have registered their interest in signing Jonjo Shelvey.

After starting the first four games under Rafa Benitez, Shelvey was one of the highest profile victims as the new boss made sweeping changes in a desperate attempt to change the slide towards the Championship.

The former Swansea player didn’t make another start as Newcastle ended the season with a six match unbeaten run, though Shelvey did make four cameo appearances off the bench.

With Moussa Sissoko and Gini Wijnaldum obviously so desperate to leave Tyneside, letting Jonjo Shelvey leave as well would be a big shout for Rafa Benitez.

Like all transfer stories you give it the ‘respect’ it deserves and whenever Crystal Palace/Alan Pardew are named as the likely destination, you do tend to feel that it makes it seem an even more lazy transfer rumour that the norm.

What can’t be ignored though is that like the other 19 Premier League clubs, Palace will have the new extra tens of millions of pounds of TV cash burning in their pockets and they have to spend it on someone.
