Hatem Ben Arfa is set for a return to England according to claims this morning.

The final weeks of last season and the immediate aftermath, led people to believe a move to Barcelona was imminent, with PSG also said to have declared an interest.

However, at neither club would the former Newcastle winger have been expected to be a first choice player and numerous other (more realistic) clubs were also said to have registered their interest.

Now Hatem is in line for a move to the south coast of England after being on the French one for a season, according to L’Equipe anyway.

This morning the French newspaper has reported that Claude Puel intends to bring Hatem Ben Arfa with him, when he moves to Southampton this week.

Puel has done a magnificent job with Nice and they only missed out on Champions League football on the final day of last season, eventually finishing fourth.

The Nice Manager is said to have built up a great relationship with Hatem Ben Arfa over the past year and is confident of persuading him to move to the Saints for another go at the Premier League.

Whilst Southampton have once again lost a manager with Ronald Koeman’s move to Everton, they continue to get real top dollar when selling players and with Liverpool agreeing to pay £34m for Sadio Mane, the new Southampton boss will have no shortage of funds to go after players, with Ben Arfa being a free agent making it an obvious signing.

L’Equipe say that their information is that Leicester City have also made contact with Hatem Ben Arfa but any firm interest there would depend on whether Riyad Mahrez leaves.
