Things are definitely moving now for Newcastle in the transfer market, with Dwight Gayle touching down at Newcastle Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier, Sky Sports revealed that Newcastle United had agreed a fee with Crystal Palace for the striker and personal terms agreed.

Dwight Gayle is set to be Newcastle’s second signing this week, with Matz Sels completing his move earlier this morning.

Matz Sels was unveiled after signing a five year deal and the clubs agreeing a reported fee of just under £5m.

Some media claims suggest that Dwight Gayle has already successfully passed his medical before flying into Newcastle but either way, he is expected to be officially confirmed as an NUFC player by Thursday at the latest.

News of Dwight Gayle’s imminent arrival comes as speculation intensifies on Andros Townsend heading the other way.

If the Newcastle winger decides to leave, United will be powerless to stop him after a release clause was included in the contract agreed in January.

Dwight Gayle can play through the middle and up  front, the kind of versatile player that could be ideal in the Championship and potentially teh Premier League if United bounce straight back.
