Davide Santon is now set to move on once again after his return to Inter Milan has come off the rails.

It looked like the full-back had landed on his feet after being forced out of Newcastle, returning to the club of his youth where he had made his name.

After a successful initial loan period in early 2015, Davide Santon found his form and hit the ground running, then after the move became permanent he even forced his way back into the national squad.

However, it has all gone sour and since October 2015 the former Newcastle defender has only made two Serie A starts.

Now the Italian media report that a number of clubs are interested in taking on the 25 year old.

FCInterNews claim that Sampdoria and Bologna have already shown interest in taking Santon on a year’s loan, whilst Watford are now said to have joined the Seria A pair and are keen to bring him back to England.

Whilst on Tyneside, Davide Santon really divided Newcastle fans, looking like a class act on occasions, whilst other times a poor defensive player who ran into blind alleys when running forward.

A great athlete and perfect (6ft 2) build for the modern game, Santon probably suffered from the fact that when paired with Jonas Gutierrez, Newcastle ended up with two right-footed players going down the left. Whereas the Jonas/Jose Enrique partnership was so productive in their time at St James Park.

Left-back continues to be a position where Newcastle have problems and it remains to be seen whether Rafa Benitez looks to address that this summer, or keeps faith with the committed but limited Paul Dummett.
