It appears at long last Fabricio Coloccini has found his way back to Argentina.

Late Thursday afternoon sees widespread media coverage in Argentina reporting that a move to San Lorenzo has been agreed.

The Newcastle United Captain tried to jump ship in the middle of the near relegation season of 2012/13 but was prevented from walking out by the club, told in no uncertain terms that after the investment made in him in transfer fee and wages, he couldn’t just walk away.

In the last four years Coloccini has rarely, if ever, looked the player he was in 2011/12 when voted into the Premier League PFA team of the year by his fellow professionals.

‘The Three Amigos’

After Mike Williamson and Steven Taylor’s departures, Coloccini’s will mean all three centre-backs who featured in the last promotion campaign, have now vacated the premises.

United have had arguably the worst defence of any Premier League club over the course of the last four years and now players such as Chancel Mbemba and Jamaal Lascelles will hopefully help bring in a new era at the club.

The staggering decision a year ago to both extend Coloccini’s contract and keep him as Newcastle Captain, was for many fans the moment when United’s relegation was first set in motion.

We will remember the good times but sadly the last four years will stick in the memory a whole lot more.
