After years of hinting at it, Moussa Sissoko has now came out and stated that he wants to leave Newcastle, leaving Arsenal fans as interested bystanders with the midfielder declaring that Arsenal would be a favoured destination.

Sissoko says he wants to stay in the Premier League and sign for a club in the Champions League, which kind of narrows things down a bit.

As a boyhood fan of the London club, Sissoko says now that ‘Arsenal is one of the best European clubs’ and says he finds it ‘very flattering’ when he hears rumours that Arsenal want to sign him.

Moussa Sissoko talking to Foot Mercato:

“I have often said when I was young, my heart was with Arsenal, Patrick Vieira who was my idol … The beautiful Arsenal.

“I gave everything there for three years. I hope that today they will be smart enough to understand that to continue my development, I need to keep playing at the highest level…I want to leave.

“It (rumours of Arsenal interest) is very flattering. Arsenal is one of the best European clubs. It’s good to know. I hope I will have a chance soon to play in this club or similar club …

“I want to continue my career in England, at a club that plays in the Champions League…”

We looked to the top Arsenal message boards/websites Arsenal-Mania and ArseBlog to find out what the Arsenal fans had to say at the prospect of Moussa Sissoko signing…:

‘Could he not perform a Ramires like role for us. Not really watched him enough but could be good squad player.’

‘A Ramsey upgrade but Iwobi and Campbell are better options than Sissoko.

I am still puzzled how Sissoko gets in the French squad.’

‘Much bigger issues than signing another box to box player, who – like the whole Newcastle team – barely put any effort in until Rafa signed. No thanks.’

‘We’re not signing someone who can’t trap a football ffs.’

‘He’s not better than Ramsey.

No chance we’re interested…I hope.’

‘He’s not better than Ramsey, Sissoko is one of the reasons Newcastle got relegated, just look at what Newcastle fans say about him. They WANT him to leave.’

‘Just leave us alone Moussa.’

‘Dude Arsene is not interested, quit the flirting, it’s not working for you.’

‘Would you take him though for less than 10 mil? He can play all across the midfield and would fill one of those squad positions vacated by Rosicky Arteta and Flamini.’

‘I’m flattered when my mates suggest a beautiful barmaid is interested in me too, but everyone knows it’s going nowhere. Doesn’t mean I won’t mention it if someone asks though.’

‘I too dream about playing for Arsenal. Sadly it doesn’t mean it will happen.’

‘My NUFC friend next to me at work says ‘you can have him, he has delusions of grandeur, thinks he is far better than he is’.

Has the whiff of Bentner to me.’

‘Wasn’t all that flattered with his performances last season!’

‘Pretty sure he’s very interested in Arsenal and the feeling is not mutual. At what point does it become harassment/stalking?’

‘He is the kind of last minute 11th hour signing that Wenger may make. For now we have to bring in quality players who are far superior than Sissoko (am looking at you, Mahrez)…..’

‘Strikes me as one of those who has too much natural ability and no hunger or work rate. Powerful player but when the chips are down as they often are at times with us, he doesn’t seem the type to roll up his sleeves. Sing when you’re winning mentality I think with this one, pass.’

‘Is he the new Solomon Kalou?’

‘My NUFC mate says every time this guy goes on international leave he says “I want to leave”…

The whiff of Debuchy to me…’

‘Don’t call us, we’ll call you.’

‘I’d be pretty pi**ed off if we got him. He’s not even the best midfielder in a relegated team.

It’s a bit like being on a night out and the ‘big’ girl on the resident hen do making constant eye contact and smiling with you.

We’ll try to ignore it to avoid the awkwardness.’

‘I would buy him without question. In some regards, he reminds me of Milner who can run for days and work in all areas of the midfield, or up front. Sissoko can be quite useful to Arsenal. Wenger can do much worse than buy a player of his ability.

I like Milner a lot, and I also like Sissoko. They are better than you think they are.’

‘Even if we were going to pick from the bones of this terrible Newcastle squad I would have thought Perez or Wijnaldum the more likely targets?’

‘I really like Sissoko. He has a lot of talent and physically he’s a beast. I think if he went to a bigger team he would do well.

And I think he really has a great attitude, would fit in with us.’

‘People are acting like he’s the worst player on the planet. I’m not saying break the bank for him but at 10 mil would be a great addition to our bench. To be fair on his day he can be unplayable but no way would he start for us though. He’d need to understand that.

Remember he’s very versatile.’
