Gini Wijnaldum and Vurnon Anita have been called up by Danny Blind for Holland’s trio of matches.

As the Dutch look to rebuild after a disastrous attempt at qualifying for France this summer, they now face the humble task of helping three qualifiers to warm up for the tournament.

Holland face the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Friday 27 May before travelling to Gdansk for a match on Wednesday 1 June against Poland.

Then only six days before the Euros kick off, Holland play Austria in Vienna on Saturday 4 June.

In a strange twist of fate, Vurnon Anita is currently the Dutch Newcastle play in the best form.

Daryl Janmaat has previously been Holland’s number one right-back but Anita kept him out of the Newcastle side on Saturday at Villa, plus seemingly helping to dent him a place in the national squad as well.

Vurnon Anita only has three caps for his country and none since 2010, meanwhile Wijnaldum must count himself fortunate to retain his place after some anonymous displays for his club.
