Only two things are seemingly certain with Seydou Doumbia and those are that he won’t be playing for either AS Roma or Newcastle United next season.

The striker has been an expensive £11m mistake for the Italian club who have loaned him out to both CSKA Moscow and Newcastle this season, in the hope of a permanent move elsewhere.

However, after only 29 minutes of football for Newcastle, including the last three minutes away at Leicester under Rafa Benitez, the striker has been totally frozen out of the first team picture.

Bizarrely though,  Doumbia’s agent Jean Bernard Beytrison has now been quizzed by the media in Italy about rumours that a move has been lined up for the striker to join Leicester in the summer.

Seydou Doumbia has got Champions League experience (and 16 goals) but it would be some stretch of the imagination for a player to go from not able to get into Newcastle’s relegation threatened squad, to then joining the Premier League champions…

When quizzed about the Newcastle loan striker’s future, Beytrison mentioned that he would be meeting Seydou Doumbia in Switzerland next week.

The striker played for Young Boys when first making his mark (50 goals in 37 league starts and 27 sub appearances), so it could well be that he has kept a family home there.

With news last week of Obertan and Marveaux being released from their contracts early, I did wonder if they had done something similar with Doumbia as he is similarly nowhere near playing for the first team.

Jean Bernard Beytrison quizzed by LaRoma24:

Is it true that Leicester and Ranieri want Seydou Doumbia for next year?

“I do not know. Let’s see. I’m still not been contacted by the club.”

What is the will of the player, to remain in the Premier League or return to Russia?

“Next week I will go to Switzerland and we will take stock of the situation to figure out what we want to do.”

You were already evaluating bids for Doumbia?

“I will speak only when there will be the signing of a new contract.”

With Roma you have already talked about the player’s future?

“I have yet to meet with the leaders of the Roma, we will at the end of the season.”
