Richard Keys must have had a serious blow to the head.

The sacked Sky Sports presenter has made clear his dislike of Rafa Benitez many times before and called into question just how good a manager he is.

In March, Richard Keys said that Rafa wasn’t ‘the answer’ for Newcastle United when he was appointed, saying that with Benitez ‘it is all about him’.

Then only two weeks ago, Keys claimed that Rafa wasn’t interested in staying at Newcastle and instead stated that he ‘knew’ that Rafa Benitez was desperately trying to get the Everton job.

Proceeding to go on a rant about how Rafa had been such a failure since leaving Liverpool and that the Spaniard ‘manages for himself and his CV’.

Which of course is proved by him agreeing to drop into the Championship with Newcastle, not!!

So now Richard Keys says that he is ‘delighted’ that Rafa is staying on Tyneside and ‘I hope it works out for everybody’.

I’m not quite sure whether I like it now that Richard Keys is now smothering Rafa and ourselves in such genuine love…

27 May Richard Keys after Rafa commits to Newcastle in the Championship:

“Fair play to Rafa. I’m delighted he’s staying at St James’.

“I hope it works out for everybody.

“It’s time that mighty club got it right again.”

March 2016 Richard Keys comments on Rafa Benitez arriving at Newcastle:

Rafa Benitez, like at Liverpool, will want to have the final say on everything. He is very dictatorial. It’s all about him. I don’t think he endears himself to the people he works with and I just don’t think he is the answer.

14 May 2016 Richard Keys ‘knows’ Rafa is trying to get Everton job :

“I know Rafa’s people are working like mad to land it – but come on. Rafa – at Goodison? No. Anyway – I couldn’t ever see him working for a ‘small’ club. Evertonians wouldn’t have it. Nor should they. Other than living on The Wirral, what qualifies Benitez for the job?

“Look deeper – what has Benitez actually won since he left Liverpool? I’ll tell you – 1 Italian Cup. 1 Italian Super Cup – their Community Shield – so that doesn’t count.

“Yep – the Europa league at Napoli and Chelsea. He won the Super Cup with Mourinho’s team at Inter – and then promptly got sacked. He also got sacked from the other big job he landed – at Real.

He manages for himself and his CV.
