The Premier League recent form table is looking in a bit better shape ahead of Aston Villa v Newcastle on Saturday.
With not a single point in the last 13 weeks, it is no surprise to see where Aston Villa are – not only have they lost their last six Premier League matches in this table, they are actually looking to make it 12 defeats in a row on Saturday.
In contrast, Rafa Benitez has eventually got a tune out of the shambles that he inherited, a win on Saturday would probably move Newcastle up into the top six when it comes to recent form…quite remarkable.
Rafa is famed for sorting out defences and to an extent he has brought some improvement but when you look at the 11 goals scored in these last six matches and at least one goal in each of those games, then it gives you a massive lift.
Newcastle are averaging a shade under two goals per game in this recent form table and another couple, allied to the steady defensive improvement in the last four matches with Lascelles alongside Mbemba – could and should be just enough to get another three points.
Villa’s last 11 games have seen them concede 30 goals and score only seven, though admittedly four of those came in the last two matches.
All things being equal though, all the stats point in Newcastle’s favour and very rarely have we been able to say that this season.
