Peter Beardsley and the Newcastle United Under 21s are on their way to the Hong Kong sevens.

The competition lasts from Friday to Sunday (2o-22 May) and United have taken a 10 man squad.

Newcastle have won the competition once (2012) and came runners-up once (2013), this time they share a group with local sides Kitchee & Hong Kong Football Club and Aston Villa.

Earlier we brought you news of the Wallsend Boys Club team that will once again be competing in the Masters competition which runs alongside the main tournament for young players.

Peter Beardsley:

“It is a great tournament in which we are always made to feel very welcome.

“It is something the kids look forward to and they are all desperate to be selected because it’s such a good trip for their development, as footballers and as young men.

“It has been a long, tough season for the lads and this is a great reward for them at the end of that.

“We are going out there to try and win it. It’s a fantastic place and a brilliant experience but at the end of the day, it’s a cup competition and we want to win it if we can.”
