Newcastle set for friendly in Belgium – Reports

According to the media in Belgium, Chancel Mbemba and Aleksandar Mitrovic are set for a summer return to the country, to play a friendly against Sporting Lokeren.

Newcastle United have already faced the Belgian club, having won 4-0 away in the Intertoto Cup 15 years ago, then beating them 1-0 at St James Park.

Voetbalnieuws.be say that the game is set to take place on Saturday 23 July, exactly two weeks before the Championship is due to kick off.

No official confirmation from either club but with the season starting in only 71 days time, no doubt we should find out the pre-season schedule shortly.

A trip to Ireland has been repeatedly mentioned by the Chronicle, whilst there are also claims elsewhere of potential friendlies against both Doncaster and Burnley, plus a possible away game at an unnamed Scottish Premier League club.

Whatever the actual destinations prove to be, it certainly looks like any longer haul trip has been ruled out in this shortest of close seasons.
