Saturday saw yet more embarrassing behaviour from the Aston Villa fans, as they attempted to aim their ‘humour’ at the visiting Newcastle supporters.
If they really want to know how to properly mock Newcastle United, then they should have a look at what Bordeaux fans did last night.
With Newcastle desperate for strikers and defenders, United ‘swooped’ for Bordeaux midfielder Henri Saivet in January.
After paying a reported £5m and a five and a half year contract (the norm for these Ligue 1 bargains…), Saivet got a couple of starts and a pair if brief appearances off the bench.
In total, Henri Saivet has played 147 minutes of football for Newcastle and nothing at all under Rafa Benitez, indeed he has only sat on the bench once in the last seven weeks, not called on during the 1-1 draw with Manchester City.
This has not gone unnoticed by Bordeaux fans and on Saturday night they unveiled a banner (see below) during their Ligue 1 match with Lorient, who they beat 3-0.
The banner reading:
“For those who are dreaming about moving to England, there is still room on the Newcastle United bench!”
The biggest joke is that with Newcastle desperate for strikers and defenders in January, they instead bought a midfielder who can’t even get on the bench…
