Only minutes before relegation kick-off – Andy Gray predicts Saturday results

Andy Gray says that today is the ‘biggest game Newcastle United have had in years’, I think I remember that being said last May when playing West Ham and even Crystal Palace last weekend.

I suppose ‘biggest game in days’ doesn’t sound quite the same!

Whatever the alternative ‘biggest’ games, this is undoubtedly yet another big day of games and possibly a defining few hours.

A win for Newcastle and defeats for Norwich and Sunderland, would leave the Canaries needing to win their other two games to stand any chance of surviving, whilst the Mackems would need at least four points and hope the Magpies don’t get anything against Spurs.

Alternatively, anything less than victory for Newcastle and everything would then be stacked against them.

Norwich kick off the day with a 12.45 live TV date and the positive is that Manchester United are desperately chasing a return to the Premier League. Andy Gray believes that they should win against a Norwich side who have ‘hit a wall’.

As for Newcastle, Andy Gray thinks they have ‘an easy three points’ against his former club – let’s hope so.

Not so good news at Sunderland though, where Gray predicts that whatever Chelsea team turns up, they will be beaten. Well if it is the Chelsea team that turned up in that second half on Monday then I wouldn’t be so sure.

If Andy Gray’s predictions work out then it would leave Newcastle with 36 points, Sunderland 35 and Norwich 31 – Newcastle having one game left and two each for the other pair.

Andy Gray writing for Paddy Power:

Aston Villa v Newcastle

“This is the biggest game Newcastle United have had in years. I have them down to win.

“It’s Villa’s last league game at Villa Park as a Premier League club. It could be easily be in front of an empty ground.

“Benitez has the Magpies on a positive run. Go for the Magpies.”

Andy’s Gray prediction: Newcastle win

Norwich vs Manchester United

“I think it’s fair to say that if Norwich lose this game, they are heading back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

“Newcastle have an easy three points so Norwich need all they can get. They’ve gone to the well but have hit a wall. Alex Neil is trying hard but they’ve lost three games in a row without scoring.

United can close the gap to City and Arsenal so they’re under pressure too. If United win all three games they’ll overtake City. I think  they’re in a good frame of mind after making the FA Cup final. They can get within a point of City with a win and I think they just have enough to do it.”

Andy Gray prediction: Norwich Lose

Sunderland v Chelsea

“Sunderland are my favourites to stay up.

“Big Sam has them determined and playing well. This could be the result that relegates Norwich.

“I just don’t know what kind of Chelsea will turn up, but it won’t matter.”

Andy Gray prediction: Sunderland win
