Les Ferdinand, the man who had everything, on and off the pitch at Newcastle United.

Forming two brilliant strike partnerships with Peter Beardsley and Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand helped Newcastle to finish runners-up in the Premier League in each of his two seasons.

A great character off the pitch as well, Ferdinand now thinks that Newcastle have found somebody else who ticks all the boxes for the club – Rafa Benitez.

The former United forward says that Rafa Benitez’ ‘credentials mean that he is the right man for Newcastle’.

Les Ferdinand hopes that if Mike Ashley is willing to ‘appease his demands’, Rafa is the man who can bring both success AND harmony to the club, even claiming Benitez could bring the ‘hierarchy and supporters together’.

At the end of the day, a winning team makes up for an awful lot and if Rafa Benitez delivers that, then everybody will be talking about him and the players, not Mike Ashley.

Ferdinand says that already Rafa Benitez ‘is starting to create a nice feeling around the place’, let’s hope this is here to stay.

Rafa Benitez speaking to Sky Sports:

“I think if you look at what he has done from the time he has come into the club until now.

“Unfortunately, they got relegated, but people look at it and probably think he just came in a month too late.

“If he had been there a little bit sooner they would have stayed in the division.

“I think he is experienced and his credentials mean that he is the right man for Newcastle.

“If they appease his demands, hopefully they can persuade him to stay. There needs to be some harmony and I think that is what Rafa Benitez can do.

“He can bring that together, bring the hierarchy and supporters together with his style of management and the way he wants to do things.

“I think people have seen already he is starting to create a nice feeling around the place.”
