Aleksandar Mitrovic scores after 2 minutes for Serbia v Cyprus – Watch it here

It took only two minutes on Wednesday afternoon for Newcastle’s Aleksandar Mitrovic to get on the scoresheet for Serbia.

Playing in a friendly against Cyprus, the United striker struck after good work by Tadic. Mitrovic controlling and striking the ball on the turn for a smartly taken goal (watch it below).

A far better international performance for the Newcastle player and his international team-mates than in recent times, Mitrovic could have had a hat-trick but for some smart saves by the Cyprus keeper.

The score at half-time was 2-1 to Serbia and the Newcastle striker was one of a number of substitutions to give others some pitch time.

Aleksandar Mitrovic had an ‘interesting’ end to the season, grabbing a goal and an assist, plus a red card, against Tottenham.

That 5-1 win over Spurs was a dead game but good to see the likes of Mitrovic playing a lot better, though his embarrassing foul means that he will miss the first four games of the Championship.

So with it being nearer September when we will next see Mitrovic in black and white, if Rafa Benitez decides to keep him…any competitive football the forward can get for his country is a bonus.
