Rafa Benitez has given the Newcastle players a change of ‘mindset’ according to Steve Howey.
The former Newcastle and England defender thinks that the team still struggled in the first few games under the new manager but now it’s clear the impact he is having on them.
It is still only three games but the win over Swansea and battling draws with Liverpool and Manchester City have given Rafa Benitez and his new team a starting point.
Steve Howey stating with total belief that Newcastle will now carry that form and confidence forward, with wins over Palace and Villa, though a win over Tottenham may be a step too far.
With momentum you never know and Howey says ‘I think Newcastle can turn it around, I really do’.
For that to stand a realistic chance, most fans appear to believe that victories in these next two matches are essential.
Let’s hope Steve Howey has called it right…
Steve Howey talking to Sky Sports:
“In the first couple of games, I didn’t see much improvement under Rafa Benitez but in the last few games, you can see the effect he has had on them.
“I think one of the biggest changes has been the mindset.
“If you look at the last three results – a great comeback at Liverpool, the draw with Manchester City and the win over Swansea – the key word is belief, both in themselves as individuals and as a team.
“They’ll beat Palace, who will have one eye on the cup final and because Newcastle have that momentum, they will go on to beat Aston Villa the following weekend as well.
“Then they finish the season against Tottenham and they might lose that one.
“Norwich will go and Sam Allardyce of course has never been relegated, but I think Newcastle can turn it around, I really do.”
