After watching Newcastle United take on Manchester City, Thierry Henry was full of praise for the United players.
A frantic opening quarter of an hour with Manchester City the better team, was concluded with a ridiculously offside goal that looked to have set the visitors on their way to a comfortable victory.
However, from that point on Newcastle proved to be the better team in the remaining 75 or so minutes plus injury time.
Vurnon Anita equalised with a superb finish and Thierry Henry was impressed by what he had seen.
The Arsenal legend declaring that ‘Newcastle are starting to look like a team managed by Rafa Benitez’ – high praise indeed.
With four points from two matches, Thierry Henry now believes that Rafa and his players can now build from there and with ‘belief you can do anything you want’.
With Jurgen Klopp making 10 changes to his team at Bournemouth last Sunday and a Europa League semi-final only five days after playing Newcastle, there is plenty room for optimism that United could just go and get something at Liverpool, if they repeat last night’s professional performance.
Thierry Henry talking on Sky Sports:
“They won a game and suddenly there is belief.
“They can build from the victory over Swansea and even more from the point against City.
“We know how hard it is going to be for them at Anfield but once you have that belief you can do anything you want.
“Newcastle are starting to look like a team managed by Rafa Benitez.”
In the crazy world of Newcastle United, one extra strange element is that appearances on live TV are usually broadcast with no former Newcastle star giving their insight.
This doesn’t appear to be the case with any other club, certainly not on such a regular basis.
What makes it even stranger is that Sky Sports think that it is a good idea to instead have a former Sunderland player, captain, manager and chairman….
So Tuesday night saw Niall Quinn alongside Thierry Henry in the Sky box at St James Park.
Quinn having this to add:
“Momentum for Newcastle is huge, that’s the point, the dressing room will be buzzing again.
“If Manchester City had nicked the win at the end it would have been so flat, so the importance of the result cannot be underestimated.
“Now they have got to build up again, get their bodies right, train for a few days and go again.
“They can’t look further than the next game, though we can, they will be trying to keep the whole thing going and hope they get something at Liverpool.”
