Rafa Benitez has been speaking ahead of the crunch game at Carrow Road on Saturday.
The Newcastle Manager accepts he will have to play somebody ‘out of position’ at left-back.
Benitez confirming that the injury suffered by Massadio Haidara meant he had no chance of playing. With Kevin Mbabu comfortable at both left and right-back, it would appear then that he is also not available, though he wasn’t mentioned by name.
The United boss also revealed that ‘Coloccini is not ready yet’, which would appear to confirm that Lascelles will keep his place alongside Chancel Mbemba after doing OK against Sunderland. It remains to be seen whether Steven Taylor could be part of some change of defensive formation as well.
Rafa Benitez had better news on Daryl Janmaat, the Dutch defender able to play despite limping off against Sunderland and missing international duty with a knee problem.
Rafa also stated that Cheick Tiote and Papiss Cisse would be available, two players whose recent Newcastle careers have faded away to very little.
“Norwich are organised. They have a lot of players who know their jobs. We have to work hard from the first minute to the last.
“We still have eight games to play and have to concentrate on one at a time.
“Coloccini is not ready yet. We lost Haidara last week. Janmaat and Cisse are coming back. Tiote is available too.
“We have to support (Karl) Darlow. He is training well and has a lot of confidence. We know he can do well.
“(Elliot injury) is bad news for us and for Rob. He is very positive. We have to support him and hopefully he can come back as soon as possible.”
