Rafa Benitez is a man of many talents but his latest challenge is a role that the faint-hearted would run a mile from.

42 days ago, the former Real Madrid Manager took on the mantle of ‘Supervet’.

For those who haven’t seen it…

Supervet is a TV show where a charismatic individual and his helpers take on the most hopeless of cases, that everybody else has given up on, and attempt to breathe new life into them.

They don’t always succeed but they do give the ailing patient the very best chance of surviving, invariably with heavy odds stacked against them.

Newcastle United were just about still breathing six weeks ago and after recent radical treatment, there have been the first signs of improvement in the patient’s condition.

Though there is still some way to go before it can be labelled as stable.

Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick lives for the moment he can hand the recovering animal back to the very grateful and committed owner.

However, in Rafa Benitez and Newcastle United’s case, this is very clearly not an option.

Rafa is needed long-term to closely monitor his patient back to full recovery, a potential success story which would transcend anything seen on or off screen so far.
