Rafa Benitez Manchester City press conference quotes – Including injury update

Monday lunchtime has seen Rafa Benitez conduct his Manchester City press conference.

Buoyed by Saturday’s three points against Swansea, Rafa says Newcastle have ‘nothing to lose at the moment’ and if the players believe like they did at the weekend, they can ‘beat anyone’.

As for team selection, Rafa Benitez admits that some of Saturday’s players took knocks but will be fine for Tuesday night.

As for players back from injury though, the Newcastle boss says neither Coloccini or Janmaat will be available, although Kevin Mbabu is ‘very close’ to returning with maybe Liverpool away on Saturday a possibility.

Rafa claims not to have picked his team yet and you have to fancy changes to the starting eleven, Jonjo Shelvey must surely start and I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least one or two other changes to a winning team.

Rafa Benitez at his Manchester City press conference:

“There are some knocks but they will be fine. We still don’t have Coloccini and Janmaat. Mbabu is very close.

“I still don’t have the team decided so you can keep guessing for another day.

“Manchester City are a team who are doing so well in Champions League and have many good players. We have to be ready for a difficult game.

We all have to stick together, work hard and try to get three points in this game.

“If we believe like we did against Swansea then we can beat anyone. We have nothing to lose at the moment and we have confidence.”
