Paul Merson has looked ahead to Southampton v Newcastle.
After watching United recently, Merson believes that Newcastle have ‘got some good players’….’but aren’t a team’.
The former Arsenal player wins no prizes for stating the bleeding obvious, saying that ‘Newcastle have to start winning football matches’.
Newcastle haven’t won for over two months now and have emerged victorious from only two of their last 16 games, needing to win probably at least four of the final seven matches does sound a ‘little’ optimistic.
Paul Merson says that if Norwich win at Palace and Newcastle lose at Southampton, it would be ‘goodnight for the Magpies’.
Those results would leave Newcastle with a nine points gap to both Palace and Norwich with only six games to play.
However, whilst Paul Merson does predict a 3-1 defeat for Newcastle, he also predicts a 2-1 defeat for Norwich at Pardew’s Palace, plus Sunderland to draw 1-1 at home to Leicester.
A set of results which would leave United three points behind the Mackems and six behind Norwich, with games running out…
Paul Merson talking to Sky Sports:
“Newcastle have to start winning football matches.
“They have to have an eye on the Crystal Palace versus Norwich game because if Norwich win, they have to pick up three points.
“If they lose and Norwich win, I think that’s it. It’s goodnight for the Magpies.
“I watched Newcastle the other week and they’ve got some good players, but they aren’t a team.”
