Liverpool’s current longest-serving first team player is looking forward to seeing Rafa Benitez again on Saturday.
The Newcastle boss brought a then 20 year old Lucas Leiva to Anfield in 2007.
The Brazilian international arrived for around £5m from Gremio in his home country and is the typical kind of player Rafa Benitez likes to see in his central midfield pairing.
Just back from injury, Lucas has started both of Liverpool’s Premier League wins against Bournemouth and Everton, plus he was a late sub in the dramatic quarter final victory over Borussia Dortmund.
The Liverpool midfielder had this to say about Rafa Benitez when talking to Sky Sports:
“I have no doubt that he will get a very good reception.
“He was very successful here and the fans appreciate what he did for the club.
“For me, it will be very special to meet him again because he was the manager who brought me here and who helped me a lot, especially in my first two seasons – so I will always be grateful.”
