Rafa Benitez has met the media ahead of the (latest) make or break relegation match against Crystal Palace.
The Newcastle boss refusing to get involved in Sam Allardyce’s feeble/clumsy efforts to engage his rivals in ‘mind games’.
Allardcye having accused the Crystal Palace players of being ‘out on the pop’ this week celebrating their FA Cup semi-fnal win and claiming that the Palace players would now be just coasting through their remaining Premier League games.
When asked on Friday afternoon, Rafa Benitez knocked back the question and Fat Sam’s comments, saying that it is players who make the difference and not managers playing mind games in press conferences.
Earlier this week local media claimed that both Coloccini and Janmaat would miss the remaining three games.
Rafa Benitez has said today though that he will have Steven Taylor available again for tomorrow’s match….the other two defenders though won’t be back from injury in time for the Crystal Palace match but Daryl Janmaat could be back for Villa next weekend.
It is still doubtful whether Coloccini will play any part but Rafa didn’t rule him out completely for the other two matches, whilst admitting it was very much odds against the United Captain taking any part in the relegation struggle
“We have Mbabu and the rest of the players are more or less the same. We don’t have Coloccini or Janmaat.
“Janmaat is close. I think we will see next week. He will have more confidence then.
“My experience, what makes the difference is players not managers. To talk about mind games and press conferences, I don’t think too much…
“The last two games we have seen the team spirit and the character. That is why everyone has more confidence.
“Crystal Palace are more or less safe. They are doing well. It’s not easy in their situation but for me they are safe.”
