Details of a bizarre incident involving Daryl Janmaat have now emerged.

After failing to cut out a through ball that led to Southampton’s killer second goal, the right-back appeared to theatrically collapse in attempting to stop the pass.

Many Newcastle fans were sceptical as to whether he was really injured and instead just wanted to remove himself from the scene of United’s latest disaster.

However, an exclusive has been claimed by the Chronicle, that Daryl Janmaat actually picked up TWO injuries on Saturday – one on the pitch and then one off it…

The Chronicle report that after the on the pitch ‘injury’ and subsequent substitution around five minutes before half-time, the Dutch international walked into the dressing room and allegedly punch the wall.

Later leaving St.Mary’s with his arm in a sling and what are believed to be two broken fingers.

From the ridiculous to the…even more ridiculous.

A shame that more of this fighting spirit wasn’t more on display in matches from Daryl Janmaat and his team-mates.

Maybe for some people this will suggest that Janmaat actually cares about Newcastle United – but there are far more productive ways of going about it than that.
