Andy Gray can see a very rare event happening today.

Something that occurs about as often as Halley’s Comet coming around…

The former Sky Sports presenter predicting wins for both Newcastle and Sunderland.

Amdy Gray believes that the day will end with the trio of relegation battlers separated by only three points, with Norwich a point ahead of the mackems and Newcastle three behind.

Norwich v Sunderland is the early lunchtime TV match today and Gray says that a win for the Canaries would relegate the Wearsiders and realistically probably do the same to Newcastle. United would remain six points behind the Canaries if they and Newcastle won, with Sunderland seven behind today’s opponents.

However, Andy Gray believes that Sunderland ‘just have enough to beat the Canaries’, despite Norwich having won all six of their last half a dozen games against the mackems.

Andy Gray writing for PaddyPower:

“If Sunderland lose this game, they are relegated and a Norwich win may just force Newcastle down with them.

“Norwich have only won one of their last six games (ED: Quality research by Gray – Norwich have actually won two of their last three matches) but have won the last six meetings with Sunderland!

“If Sunderland win it, they’ll be a point off Norwich with a game in hand. It’s the only result that will suit Sunderland. It’s going to be very ugly, it always is in a six pointer.

“The Black Cats are due a bit of luck. They just have enough to beat the Canaries for me.  Jermaine Defoe is obviously the one to watch for the goalscorer.”

As for Newcastle, Andy Gray says that United were to look ‘very ordinary’ against Southampton, which to me is pretty much understatement of the year, as the Saints strolled to victory and never had to get out of first gear.

Despite Swansea being an in-form team and beating Chelsea last week, Andy Gray thinks that with the Welsh club having ‘nothing to play for’ it will help Newcastle to a win.

I can’t say I really fo along with the belief that Swansea will suddenly be coasting along as surely they knew they were all but safe before last weekend’s game and yet put in a great committed performance.

It isn’t that I don’t think Newcastle can’t win, if they turn up, but any hint of complacency and United really will have zero chance.

Andy Gray:

“What a huge game for Newcastle.

“They were made look very ordinary last weekend and can’t repeat that performance. And I don’t think they will.

“Swansea are safe and have nothing to play for.”
