Alan Shearer says that today’s game was ‘one hell of a match’ – if you weren’t a Newcastle fan…

The United legend says that if you are a Norwich fan or a neutral then you would have had full value.

As a Newcastle fan like the rest of us though, Alan Shearer says the 3-2 defeat to Norwich was…’a bit edgy’ and ultimately, ‘very disappointing’.

Shearer believes that Rafa Benitez knew how serious the situation was before he went into St James Park and that if only he had been given more time…things ‘would have been different’.

Alan Shearer describes today as ‘a killer blow’ and it is hard to disagree.

Alan Shearer talking to Radio 5 Live:

“So poor defensively, they are always going to concede goals.

“You have to give credit to Norwich because of the way they kept going.

“It was one hell of a match…if you were a neutral, but if you were a Newcastle fan, like I was, it was a bit edgy and very disappointing.

“You have to also look at the goal difference, it could work out to be seven points (between Norwich and Newcastle). It is a hell of a lot to ask to claw back within seven games. It was a big ask anyway with 10 games to go.

“I’m pretty certain that if Rafa Benitez had been given more time, it would have been different.

“But it is a difficult job he has gone into, he knows that.

“It is going to be a big big ask for Newcastle because that was a killer blow today.”
