Ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Southampton, Alan Shearer has laid it on the line for the United team.
The Newcastle legend pointed to two failings in the defeat at Carrow Road last Saturday.
Shearer saying that the players only turned up for the second half, whilst it was obvious Norwich had more desire to win the game than Newcastle.
Alan Shearer reckons it is looking ‘bleak’ for north east football overall, with Newcastle and Sunderland favourites to join Villa in the Championship.
Without his media/public head on, I’m sure Alan Shearer wouldn’t be too upset if one half of the north east Premier League duo made the drop, just like the rest of us.
However, for any kind of black and white survival possibility, Newcastle have to not only turn up from the first minute but also show more desire than Southampton.
Do those two things and just maybe we might have every chance of pulling off a surprise at 3pm today.
Alan Shearer writing for Coral:
“As for the bottom end of the table, it’s going to be really difficult for Newcastle to get out of the situation they’ve found themselves in.
“They scored two goals to get themselves back into the game against Norwich at the weekend but similar to the Sunderland game, they didn’t turn up for the first 45 minutes and should have been two or three goals down at that stage.
“Norwich deserved to win and it was clear that they wanted it more than Newcastle.
“It would be an absolute disaster if both Newcastle and Sunderland were to go down. It’s looking very bleak now.”
