Very surprising Newcastle player makes Premier League team of the week after the derby

I could give you 10 guesses and you still might not pick the Newcastle player who has made this Premier League team of the week.

The team has been drawn from the players who were included in the 20 Premier League clubs who played this Saturday and Sunday.

The eleven players were the best in each position according to the WhoScored.com automatic analysis.

Every match in all the major European Leagues is automatically analysed by whoscored.com,  with over 200 raw statistics used to calculate each player’s ratings and are weighted according to influence in the game – taking into account the area of the pitch and its outcome for each important event.

(This system is used by numerous sections of the football industry; including media, bookmakers and clubs themselves).

Judge for yourself but this is what the WhoScored super computer has thrown out this weekend…

A bit of a strange one I’m sure you will agree, especially as Moussa Sissoko played no part in the goal and appeared to regularly lose the ball and certainly didn’t influence the game in any significant way.

He was actually marginally better when played as an emergency left-back after Jack Colback was subbed but still not even one of Newcastle’s better players, never mind in the Premier League team of the week.

Having said that, Sky Sports made Gini Wijnaldum man of the match yesterday, another strange decision and at odds with what thousands of fans told us in our player ratings for the derby.
