Boss Mark Hughes has given an update on the Stoke City injuries ahead of the Newcastle match.
Hughes revealed that midfielder Glenn Whelan had broken his nose against Aston Villa on Saturday but the problem wasn’t diagnosed until after the final whistle.
Despite the injury, Whelan is expected to play.
At the back, influential defender Ryan Shawcross isn’t quite ready to return but another defender, Marc Muniesa, is expected to be up for selection after a hamstring injury.
Another two players who got knocks against Villa are Geoff Cameron and ex-mackem Phil Bardsley, both though are expected to play.
Two who will miss out though are midfielder Charlie Adam and right-back Glen Johnson – both of whom are still coming back from injury.
“Glenn Whelan broke his nose but knowing Glenn, that won’t impact him at all and we fully expect him to be ready for the game.”
“Ryan Shawcross will miss out (v Newcastle) again and we will check on him later in the week, but Marc Muniesa is progressing and could come into my thoughts.
“Bardsley will have a scan on his calf. We hope he will be OK.
“Geoff Cameron came through the game OK but has been a little sore since. We hope that will settle down in the next 24 hours.
“Charlie Adam is back in training but needs more time with the group and Glen Johnson is still 2 or 3 weeks away with his knee.”
