Steven Taylor has spoken ahead of the Stoke match tonight.

A game where a win would remarkably lift Newcastle three points clear of the relegation zone with a game in hand, thanks to last night’s results.

Of course there is the small matter of actually getting that win, away from home.

Steve McClaren had a revelation on Tuesday when he declared:

“We have to keep clean sheets and score goals.”

Now Steven Taylor has produced his own, by saying ‘we have to take the game to teams’.

(Surprise surprise, before we played the last away game he said ‘We will be taking the game to Chelsea…’)

This is something that Steve McClaren has failed to do all season and is surely the only reason why Newcastle have scored seven away goals, less than all other 91 clubs in the top four divisions.

It is of course the key factor as well as to why United have lost their last six away games with hardly a whimper and have lost 11 of the 14 so far this season.

So McClaren accepts we need to score goals and Taylor (and the other players presumably) realises that to score goals we have to attack.

What could possibly go wrong with this Brains Trust…?

Steven Taylor talking to the Chronicle:

“Yes, we have to support each other – the main thing is the players on the pitch, we perform.

“We are the ones who have to go out there and get results.

“We know we have to come out of the traps at Stoke.

“One thing is for sure – we have to take the game to teams.

We need the results, we need three point, it is as simple as that.”
