Celebrity mackem fan Steve Cram is ‘looking forward’ to the latest derby match.

The former athlete says that with each passing derby victory, he can’t believe that their luck will hold for another one.

It really is a shocking indictment on the Newcastle players of the last three or four years, when such a rubbish team have beaten them six times in a row.

It would be very hard to take if Sunderland were a decent team BUT to get beat six times by a team that battle relegation every season is unforgivable.

Steve Cram indicates that his head is telling him that Sunderland won’t win but naturally his heart is saying the opposite.

With possibly Premier League survival at stake, Cram describes it as a ‘nine-pointer’.

Here’s hoping that Steve Cram’s head has it right.

Steve Cram talking to BBC Sport:

“We have to win, but both teams need to win – it’s a nine-pointer if there is such a thing.

“I think it will be very tight on the day because both teams will be under an awful lot of pressure.

“What do I say? Six derby wins in a row for Sunderland and I would love to see a seventh, but each time I have been left thinking we can’t win another one.

“That is kind of what I am thinking this time but my heart obviously wants us to win it – and, if we do get a goal, I don’t care if it comes in the 93rd minute. 0-1, hopefully.”
