Paul Gascoigne has released a public statement after photos were published in recent days of him with cuts to his face, carrying a bottle of booze and not looking at his best – in the company of a police officer.

The former Newcastle and England star has admitted that he had fallen off the wagon – but that this was the first time in 11 months and it was just a ‘blip’.

Gazza says that isn’t ‘perfect’ and wouldn’t want to be – but that he is always ‘trying my best’.

In the statement Paul Gascoigne says that he is now ‘back on track’ and sends his love.

I suppose one of the problems is that the only times we see real headlines about Gazza, is when he does end up having a bad turn.

This means that it is easy to think that these down times are happening a lot more often than in reality they are.

Let’s hope that is the case and as always, we wish Gazza all the best and hopefully the next blip is way in the future…

Paul Gascoigne:

“Thanks so much for all your support. You would think they (media) would leave me alone but it is good sometimes being famous.

“I’ve done really well for 11 months, I have one blip and I get hammered for it. I’m back on track now.

“I’m not perfect and don’t want to be either but I am trying my best always. I love YOUS all.”
