At least temporarily, Newcastle striker Ivan Toney has left behind the madness of St James Park for the next couple of months.
The former Northampton forward is spending a second loan spell of the season at Barnsley and in this latest loan, has already helped the League One club to four points in his first two matches.
Barnsley now stand only two points outside the play-offs and if Ivan Toney can help fire them into the Championship, there looks ever chance that the striker’s two clubs could be meeting each other next season…
In his first loan spell, Ivan Toney helped guide Barnsley through the earlier stages of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and after winning the Northern part of the competition, this Sunday sees the South Yorkshire club meet Oxford United at Wembley in the final.
Good luck to Ivan Toney and his temporary team-mates on Sunday, and fingers crossed they will get promotion as well, BUT that Newcastle won’t be playing them in league football next season.
