Michael Owen has been looking at Newcastle’s match against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
Bournemouth are now eight points clear of United and now looking to have perhaps left the relegation fight as a possible two from three, of Newcastle, Norwich and Sunderland, to join Aston Villa for the drop.
Whenever I have seen Bournemouth play they seem to approach every match, no matter who the opposition is, with the same high energy possession football, with a ready willingness to get forward by pretty much the whole team.
However, I never realised just how outstanding their away form has been, until Michael Owen helpfully pointed it out ahead of Saturday…
On their travels in the Premier League, Bournemouth have avoided defeat in seven of their last eight away matches.
Only title contender Arsenal have beaten them on their travels since 1 November, over four months ago!
Their run includes avoiding defeat at Leicester and beating Chelsea, here are those last eight away matches the one longest ago listed first:
Swansea 2 Bournemouth 2
Chelsea 0 Bournemouth 1
West Brom 1 Bournemouth 2
Arsenal 2 Bournemouth 0
Leicester 0 Bournemouth 0
Sunderland 1 Bournemouth 1
Crystal Palace 1 Bournemouth 2
Watford 0 Bournemouth o
Despite this impressive record, Michael Owen has actually tipped Newcastle to win, saying that if anybody is going to win it will be his ‘old club’.
We are touched and honoured that he is still thinking about us…
Michael Owen writing for BetVictor:
“Bournemouth have only lost one of their last eight PL away games and I am a massive fan of Eddie Howe…
“But if any side are going to get the win I think it will be my old club who desperately need all three points. “
