Gary Lineker managed to wind up a fair few Sunderland fans on Saturday night as he talked about the upcoming derby match this Sunday afternoon.
Presenting Match of The Day along with Jermaine Jenas and Danny Murphy, they had covered the disastrous Norwich and Swansea games before turning their attention to THE match of the weekend.
Gary Lineker then referred to the Newcastle v Sunderland game as the ‘Tyne-Tees’ derby…
Mackems took to social media to complain but surely an easy mistake to make, getting the likes of Sunderland and Middlesbrough confused.
Lineker later made a ‘heartfelt’ apology on Twitter saying:
“Yes, slip of the tongue. Apologies to all those whose lives will be affected by such a cataclysmic error.”
Many Newcastle supporters used to refer to the game as the ‘Tyne and Where’ derby but the laughs have been thin on the ground for the last few years thanks to our team of slackers letting us down.
That had better change today to ensure that it is a ‘Tyne-Tees’ derby next season, in the PREMIER LEAGUE.
Yes, slip of the tongue. Apologies to all those whose lives will be affected by such a cataclysmic error. https://t.co/jgNK80prc9
