Newcastle 1 Bournemouth 3  Saturday 5 March 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle, to talk about some aspect of the match:

Jamie Smith:

“I know it’s mad, but that may not be a bad result.

“McClaren has been atrocious throughout and this is a season low.

“If this defeat gets rid of the incompetent arsehole it’s a big win and I’m confident with the games left, a half decent manager could keep us up comfortably.

“If he goes this weekend we go into the derby full of confidence and favourites to pull Sunderland’s favourite trick on them this time.

“If not we are already down….”

Nat Seaton:

“In a must win home match, we never at any point looked like we could win.

“A performance beyond anything that even the ‘sceptical me’ thought was possible.

“Take note of what happened at Chelsea the same players suddenly could play once the manager went…”

Paul Lyon:

“Already dubbed ‘the best squad to get relegated’…where’s the proof?

“The consistently pathetic performances this group of players put in beggars belief.

“Disbelief? I questioned my senses when I watched us score a goal, A GOAL! Unbelievable!

McClaren should have resigned at half-time and if he’s still in the dugout next game and beyond, then relegation is nailed on for NUFC.”

Leazes Park Ender:

“What a mess. What a shambles. What a joke.

“Newcastle Utd Football Club looks diseased. There appears problems at every single level.

“Today pointed towards another season in the second tier. I have a worry this slide could last years.

““We needed to rebuild the back four as it didn’t happen.

“We employed McClaren and it was a monumental error. Penny for Charnley’s thoughts? For Mr Ashley, having spent £80m on players.

“In the short term the manager has got to go. Even if that happens, it well be too late.

“Football eh…it used to be fun. A club like Newcastle shouldn’t be down there, but as the old saying goes, nobody is too big to get relegated.

“The next ten games could shape NUFC’s future for the next 4 or 5 years. And while Mac faces the music let’s not let the players off the hook here.

“Lads, you’re absolutely abysmal and need to have a long hard think about what you’re doing out on that park. You can still turn this round, but time is short.

“The club is on its knees – yet again.”

Notts Toon:

“Absolute suicide from McClaren, team selection, tactics and substitutions all complete crap.

“If he survives the day it will be the most ridiculous decision of the Ashley era.”

George Stainsby:

“*Insert excuse here*.”

Jamie Swan:

“ABSOLUTE SHOCKER.

“ABSOLUTELY PASTED AT HOME.

“NO WISECRACKS OR JOKES.

“There can be only one positive to take from today and that hasn’t even happened yet – Steve McClaren MUST be sacked.

“He has completely lost the plot. That is if he ever had the plot to lose.

“A game that had to be won and he starts with Riviere up front! He lasted 45 minutes! Masterstroke mate.

“This result screams relegation for us. I fear we are doomed – but luckily the Mackems didn’t win and Norwich also lost. A new strong Manager might just get a boost out of the lads in the run in to save our streaky bacon.

“Either way we need direction as we are rudderless under this numb-nut.

“Steve, take a long hard look at yourself – you are not capable of the task in hand, do us a favour and go NOW.

“NUFC till I die, but you Sir are pushing me closer to pushing up those daisies…

“Charnley if you were born with a pair of testicles do the right thing and get the ball rolling NOW.”
