Newcastle fans were gutted at the final whistle at St James Park after that last gasp goal, then Wednesday night saw two late goals to finish united off, but what about Everton fans?

The scousers have now beaten only two teams in their last 11 Premier League matches and they are both called Newcastle United.

The Everton fans and players were nervous during the game and because of missed chances, Rob Elliot and the woodwork, it was only after 88 minutes they could relax – despite minimal threat from Newcastle.

We searched out the reaction of the Everton fans via two of their top message boards Toffeetalk and Grand Old Team:

From ‘Grand Old Team’:

‘If we can’t beat Newcastle I’m giving up.’

‘I like Geordies, they’ve spent a good 15 years now being piped down so they don’t take themselves so seriously anymore.’

‘How Coloccini didn’t spend a night in the cells for that assault is beyond me. Dirty sideshow Bob snide.’

‘Rolando Aaron was atrocious, one of the worst Prem players I can recall. That Lascelles chap was woeful but also that sly comment in Barkley’s ear just as he was about to take the first pen – that’s low.’

‘With Newcastle in the bottom 3 I was thinking that although they are possibly a side a lot would like to see go down, they have actually provided us with some of our most entertaining and memorable games over the last few years.’

‘Anyone know why the upper Bullens (visitors) tickets were not put on sale? Mostly obstructed views left around the ground, and Newcastle rarely take the full allocation these days.’

‘You can’t believe Newcastle signed [insert overrated player with questionable attitude] for [insert 2-3x fair market value] for [insert LOL thousand pounds a week] ??? The Newcastle board, players and fans are all made for each other. Hope they rot in the Championship.’

‘Townshend and Shelvey for £24m quid… I’d jump off a bridge if we did that.’

‘I  do wonder how both the Newcastle matches would have turned out if Mitrovic knew how to finish from 6 yards out. Missed a free header in the away match and couldn’t hit the frame on a golden chance today.’

‘By the way, did anyone else not notice that Wijnaldum was playing until ages in to the game? I missed the Newcastle team sheet being read out and honestly assumed he was injured until about the 40th minute. He was invisible.’

‘We needed this one in a big way. Awesome! Glad the Barcodes were awful tonight. Three in the back pocket.’

‘McClaran went into a bad run with Derby when they were up for promotion, he took a bad punt on this job, their fans are worse then us and will demand his sacking soon, can see Rodgers being their next manager.’

‘How bad are Newcastle though? Its not surprising that we can only beat them, Sunderland and Villa.’

‘I’m actually in shock at how bad Newcastle were. I mean I knew they were bad but bloody hell fire.’

‘Good 3 points, Newcastle are utter garbage and deserve to go down for spending £24m on Townsend and Shelvey, wow.’

‘Well that was good for so many reasons. Clean sheet. Not one but two penalties. Beat those shirtless wonders from up north. Can’t grumble.’

‘Even Newcastle fans hate Newcastle these days.’

‘Feel sorry for Elliot – got absolutely nothing in front of him.’

From ‘Toffeetalk’:

Newcastle have a breath of fresh air going into this game with a newly reinforced squad. If I’m totally honest I can see Everton losing this one.’

‘I have a good feeling about this one. For some reason I like playing against Newcastle.’

‘Great build up and finish, but that defending was soft as shi*e: the sort of thing we’d do.  Well done Lennon lad.’

‘Boring stuff, but should be 3-0 at least.  Newcastle offered the princely sum of 0 in that half.  Want to see Lukaku really boss their CBs in the second half.’

‘Is Shelvey drunk out there tonight?’

‘Bloody hell their keeper is having a blinder.’

‘Hit the woodwork 3 times in the last 5 minutes.’

‘We are going to concede and if we don’t get a second and a third very soon we may well get nervous and lose this yet.’

‘Dirty bastards in this Newcastle team.’

‘Needed the points tonight, and could have been out of sight by half time, so can’t really complain in the end, but why allow a shi*e side like Newcastle to come back into it and threaten us like they have?’

‘Elliot doesn’t deserve to be beaten 3 times.’

‘It was flattering to Newcastle.’
