Tony Pulis reckons that today is the worst West Brom have played away from home since he arrived.

It would be hard to argue otherwise such was Newcastle’s dominance, although it was scarcely reflected in the goals column.

As United tired towards the end they almost let the visitors grab a point, something that even Tony Pulis admits they didn’t deserve.

As for reasons/excuses, the West Brom boss said that Newcastle have got good players and he pointed especially to the buying of Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend in January.

Tony Pulis saying ‘just look at what they have recruited’ – whether that was a comment aimed also at his own board because nothing was spent by West Brom in January…who knows, but what is for sure is that new signings Shelvey and Townsend were pivotal in this vital win.

This is the only the start though and the United team and management have to ensure they build from this result because if they got relegated, it would be shameful when you have such limited teams as West Brom who are likely to stay up relatively comfortably.

Tony Pulis:

“Newcastle have got good players, just look at what they have recruited.

“Like all teams in this league though you need a little luck…today they didn’t need luck though – they were better than us.

“That is our worst performance playing away from home since I have been here.

“It could have been more than 1-0 but they are a great group of lads and we will have to take this on the chin and work this out.

“Only in the last 15 minutes did we have a couple of opportunities to score. The goal was a poor one to concede and it pushed them on – but we weren’t at the races from the beginning.

“We know the number of points we have to get and need a couple of players back -but every game is tough and there are no easy games in the Premier League.”
