Mark Lawrenson has been taking a look at the Everton v Newcastle clash on Wednesday night.
Newcastle desperate for points to get out of the relegation zone.
Everton desperate for the win that would pretty much prevent them getting dragged into a relegation fight – the scousers would be only five points behind Newcastle if the Magpies take away the three points.
Mark Lawrenson thinks Roberto Martinez is under pressure but things will change on Wednesday night.
He has predicted a 2-1 win for Everton which would be their first PL victory at Goodison Park since 21 November when they beat Villa 4-0.
In fact the Toffees have only won three Premier League matches since September, a 6-2 win over Sunderland at home and the 1-0 victory at St James Park. Everton’s only league wins in over four months being against the clubs in the relegation zone…
As for Newcastle, Mark Lawrenson acknowledges that United have bought a number of players to try and ensure survival but he thinks that they will take time to find their feet and form – let’s hope it doesn’t take too long….
Mark Lawrenson talking to BBC Sport:
“Everton boss Roberto Martinez is under a bit of pressure because of their league form, especially at home – they have not won at Goodison Park in the Premier League since 21 November.
“I think the Toffees will put that right on Wednesday, though.
“Newcastle went for it in the transfer window because they were buying to stay in the league but their new signings will take time to settle in.”
