Subliminal message sent out by club revealing new Newcastle Captain?

This 18 day gap between matches has seen any number of discussions on various aspects of the football club, with the question of who should be Newcastle Captain one of the more popular ones.

The perception of many supporters is that there is a total lack of leadership through the club, nowhere more so than when it comes to Fabricio Coloccini’s captaincy on, and off, the pitch.

Various polls in a number of media have shown overwhelming support for a change in Newcastle Captain as soon as possible, with Jonjo Shelvey seen as by far the most popular replacement.

Coloccini’s calf injury has of course upped the volume of debate but even if he is passed fit to play against Stoke, the popular vote is for a change over to Shelvey regardless.

Bearing all of this speculation in mind amongst the media and supporters, I would like to think that somebody at the football club was playing it for laughs on purpose today, when they put up a feature on Newcastle United’s official club website.

The article was a competition to be mascot when Newcastle play at Norwich in early April and this is how the text read:

‘Steve McClaren takes his side to Carrow Road on Saturday, 2nd April (3pm kick-off), and you could be leading out Fabricio Coloccini and Co in the Barclays Premier League.

Open to all Members and season ticket holders aged between eight and 11, to be in with a chance of winning this great prize, simply answer the following question: Which bird features in Norwich’s nickname?’

As I said above, taking into account the speculation that is raging, can you believe that they used this particular image to illustrate the story:

So is this a not so well hidden subliminal message from the club as to who will be Newcastle Captain for the rest of the season, or just another example of NUFC incompetence…the truth is out there..
