Shola Ameobi gets one over on Adam Armstrong
In the twilight of his career, Shola Ameobi had the upper hand today when he faced Adam Armstrong.
Both strikers have deals at their clubs until the end of the season, with 19 year old Armstrong on loan at Coventry and Shola joining Fleetwood this month on a short-term contract until May.
Coventry City were looking to stabilise their place in the League One play-offs, whilst Fleetwood Town were hoping to climb out of the relegation zone.
After a goalless first half, Coventry fans were stunned when Wes Burns gave the visitors the lead after 56 minutes.
However, Adam Armstrong then created the equaliser as the Sky Blues levelled thing with 15 minutes on the clock when Tudgay scored.
The visitors didn’t fold though and within seconds of Shola Ameobi coming onto the pitch as a sub with eight minutes left, Fleetwood snatched the winner through David Ball.
The former Newcastle forward obviously wasn’t capable of starting his third match within seven days before after no wins since 2 January, Fleetwood now have two in three since Shola signed, results that have now lifted them two points clear of the relegation zone.
As for Adam Armstrong who remains on 19 goals for the season, he and Coventry City now sit only one point clear of those trying to get into the play-off places.
