It has been confirmed that Seydou Doumbia has agreed personal terms with Newcastle United and the club are only now awaiting confirmation that there are no issues raised by his medical.
Sky Sports’ man in the north east Keith Downie has stated the Doumbia loan deal (subject to medical) is agreed for the rest of this season.
On Sunday, Foot Mercato reported that the 28 year old striker and his agent had arrived in Newcastle for talks on Saturday and after successfully agreeing terms, the 28 year old was having his medical on Sunday.
Seydou Doumbia is a player who has been linked a number of times previously with Newcastle, with claims of reported interest going back over two years.
The Ivory Coast forward scored 63 goals in 83 league games for CSKA Moscow before AS Roma bought him for around £11m in January2015.
The striker didn’t settle in Italy and has spent the last few months back on loan at CSKA Moscow, where he scored 11 goals in 17 starts, including six goals in the Champions League.
Marseille have tried to do a deal for Seydou Doumbia but in their financial position can’t even afford to finance a loan deal and meet the player’s wage demands, whilst the player is also said to have turned down both Fenerbahce and Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua.
The Berahino speculation rumbles on but after spending the best part of £30m on Shelvey, Saivet and Townsend, a loan deal for a striker was always more likely than £24m on the West Brom forward.
