Newcastle United have had the best January transfer window of all Premier League clubs, according to Jamie Redknapp.
The TV pundit is especially impressed by the loan deal that brings Seydou Doumbia to St James Park.
Jamie Redknapp says that the Ivory Coast striker ‘did great for CSKA’.
Doumbia scored 84 goals in 115 starts (+16 sub appearances) when he was originally at the Russian club.
Then after the failure of his move to AS Roma, he was loaned back to CSKA last summer and scored another 11 goals in 17 starts (+4 as sub).
The striker’s record in the Champions League spead over his two spells at CSKA is particularly remarkable, Seydou Doumbia scoring 23 goals in only 26 starts (+4 as sub).
Jamie Redknapp says that despite being in the relegation zone with 15 games remaining, due to their January trading the Magpies have ‘pretty much secured their safety (can we have that in writing please…’.
Newcastle fans still have serious concerns about their defence, which is currently the third worst in the Premier League after Norwich and Sunderland, and only QPR let in more goals last season.
However, despite no defenders being brought in during January, Jamie Redknapp believes that the four midfield and attacking signings will more than make up for that, with the pace and ability to score goals they bring to the Newcastle team.
Jamie Redknapp talking to Sky Sports:
“Seydou Doumbia will get goals – he did great for CSKA.
“They(Newcastle) have done enough, they’re in the bottom three but they have pretty much secured their safety.
“They have brought players in with pace, who can score goals, and have had the best window out of everybody.”
