Rubin Okotie continues to be monitored by Newcastle and is reported to be a summer target for The Magpies, according to reports in Germany this morning.

December 2015 saw United first linked with the powerful striker, though it does take a bit of believing that there is real substance in the claims.

An Austrian international, Rubin Okotie was actually born in Pakistan and then was raised for some years in Barcelona, though he has spent most of his football career playing in Austria, as well as spells in Belgium, Switzerland and Germany.

The forward has now scored  24 goals in 47 (plus 5 as a sub) starts for 1860 Munich but that is in the second tier of German football.

Though it isn’t a bad record considering both seasons 1860 Munich have been relegation favourites and this time around are currently second bottom of the table.

Turning 29 in June he isn’t exactly the right age for an Ashley signing, though Rubin Okotie did only cost £100,000 when moving from Austria Vienna to Germany in summer 2014.

My Heimat claim that Newcastle remain keen on the player, along with the likes of CSKA Moscow, Mainz and Hamburg SV – with the player looking set to leave the club this summer
