Mark Lawrenson thinks Newcastle fans can lie back and relax…at least until Monday.

The former United defensive coach believes Newcastle supporters will enjoy their football this weekend despite having their game against Manchester City postponed due to the League Cup final on Sunday.

Mark Lawrenson has predicted defeats for all five of the Magpies’ relegation rivals in their fixtures over the course of Saturday and Sunday.

Sunderland kick off proceedings in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off at West Ham, where the Hammers’ fans get a chance to show their appreciation for his management skills…before pushing the mackems a step closer to relegation.

Then Norwich, Villa and Bournemouth all face tough away matches in their 3pm Saturday kick-offs, before Swansea round off the weekend on Sunday with a trip to White Hart Lane.

Mark Lawrenson speaking to BBC Sport:

West Ham 2 Sunderland 1

‘There is talk Allardyce might get a mixed reception from the home supporters on Saturday but, as a West Ham fan, why would you boo him?’

Leicester 2 Norwich 0

‘Norwich have picked up only eight points out of a possible 39 on the road, and only Newcastle have a worse away record in the Premier League this season.’

Stoke 2 Aston Villa 0

‘I find Stoke a very difficult team to predict, unless they are playing Aston Villa – you have got to predict everybody to beat them.’

Watford 2 Bournemouth 0

‘Bournemouth…have been beaten in their last three matches and they have got a lot of work to do before they can talk about being safe.’

Tottenham 2 Swansea 0

‘Tottenham played poorly against Crystal Palace and are out of the FA Cup but…I don’t expect the same to happen against Swansea, who are still teetering a bit above the drop zone.’

What would put the cherry on top of the relegation survival cake is if Norwich get beat by three or more goals, as combined with defeat for Sunderland that would ensure Newcastle would be out of the relegation zone (on goal difference) come Saturday teatime.
