Alan Pardew has taken given his pre-match press conference on Friday for Crystal Palace’s weekend game.

With no wins in the last nine Premier League fixtures, Pardew and Palace are desperate for a win when they travel to West Brom, which would/could avoid them being dragged into the relegation fight.

As well as all the usual questions about the match at the Hawthorns, the Palace boss was also asked about a couple of transfer stories that have been doing the rounds.

Crystal Palace being linked with both Markus Henriksen (midfielder at AZ Alkmaar) and Liam Gibson, the 18 year old left-back at Newcastle.

Asked if there was any substance to the speculation on either player, Alan Pardew replied ‘none whatsoever’.

Whilst we all hope that Liam Gibson (like all the young players) will come through and prove himself, the story did all sound a little strange.

The local lad from Stanley turns 19 in two months time and you would have assumed we’d have heard at least something before now if he was a potential superstar of this current youth group – considering he is the same age as Adam Armstrong.

Due to the injuries and failure to strengthen in January, Liam Gibson got a start against Lillestrom last Saturday and did ok, like all young players until they are given a proper chance you don’t really find out much about them.

A real bonus if any of the younger players currently playing at Under 18 and Under 21 level can make it through.
