One of the strangest Newcastle transfer stories, against some pretty stiff competition, of recent times was surely the link in recent days to Daniel Sturridge.
It was claimed that Mike Ashley was prepared to back a summer bid of £30m for the striker, amidst reports that Daniel Sturridge wasn’t happy at Liverpool.
Like a lot of these cases, not quite sure where this transfer story started but it did get widespread coverage.
Not sure if Sturridge himself would see Newcastle as a good career move but regardless of this, could you really see Mike Ashley giving the go ahead to such a transfer?
He may be at an age (26) when he should be in his prime and have a decent ‘re-sale’ value but there are other factors to consider…
In his ten year Premier League career, Daniel Sturridge has only started 94 PL games, in the last four and a half years he has started only 48 and 26 of those came in one season.
That 26 game (starts) season was the one where he and Suarez almost shot Liverpool to title glory and it does show what he is capable of – but the negatives are huge.
Just look at this injury record and that is only for the last four and a half years, 18 (EIGHTEEN) separate injuries/illnesses with the month/year each one started…

For any number of reasons Daniel Sturridge won’t be coming to Newcastle United and these 18 reasons above are just a few of them.
