We searched out the reaction of the Watford fans via one of their top message boards WFCforums:

‘Newcastle are on the up and we’re at our fragile worst. Got a really bad feeling that we’ll lose this and be drawn into a relegation scrap.’

‘Let’s hope with Ake back, Janmaat and co won’t have the freedom of vicarage road down the right, as they clearly did in the cup game.’

‘Dear Mr Football Fixture Computer Man. Please can we play Newcastle every week? Thank You.’

‘That was a B I G three points tonight, bit nervy towards the end and if the Newcastle strikers didn’t have 50p heads it could’ve been a bit different… but they do… and it wasn’t!’

‘Massive result and we played a lot better. But I also thought that was an absolutely vintage Newcastle performance – backed off, gave our key players space and were generally lazy.’

‘Nice for the Pygmies to complete the treble over the Giants.’

‘One thing I will say, Newcastle put some amazing crosses in, that’s an area we really need to work on to stop them. With some better decision making we should have been out of sight.’

‘The new formation looks like it can get the best out of some of our players and worked very well at suffocating the Newcastle midfield, particularly Shelvey. We know he can be dangerous given time to pick a pass, but Watson and Behrami were all over him like a rash.’

‘Newcastle can deliver excellent crosses, thankfully they have Mitrovic up front.’

‘Newcastle should be ok, especially if they can sign that elusive striker. Liked their Shelvey chant as well. Overall, could have won by more, could have also drawn so happy with the result and performance.’

‘BTW Janmaat is one hell of a right back. I would love for us to go in for him in the summer if the toon go down.’

‘I think the fact that we have beaten them three times and they are currently in the bottom three suggests, if nothing else, that they are a bad side.’

‘IMHO there’s not much wrong with Newcastle that a decent striker wouldn’t sort out. Strikers apart, they’ve got the best players out of all the sides in the bottom six. Only 1 week to go of the window & they’ve still not signed one though. Bloody useless club.’

‘Second time this season that England midfielder and all round superstar baller Johnjo Shelvey has come to Vicarage Road and promptly gone missing. Not sure whose back pocket he keeps ending up in but it’s quite amusing.’

‘Mitrovoc cost £13m and Newcastle have spent £80 million in the last two windows…. They have literally no clue what they are doing, imagine how good we’d be if we’d spent that sort of money?’

‘They’re pinning all their hopes on signing Berahino I think. If they don’t get him & end up with nobody though they’re screwed – also the first time we’ve done a Prem double over someone.’

‘Newcastle aren’t that bad. New striker and a new manager and they’ll stay up. I hope they go down though as next season they will surely be better.’
