Watford 1 Newcastle 0  Saturday 9 January 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle, to talk about some aspect of the match:

George Stainsby:

“This isn’t an in depth analysis.

“It’s relatively simple.

“We need someone who can score. Volunteers?”

James Rutherford:

“No cup run.

“No chance of finishing top eight.

“No goals.

“No certainty of survival.

“No clue.

“No hope.”

Nat Seaton:

“Well who could have predicted that line-up?

“As it turns it still couldn’t beat Watford Reserves.

“The thing is you have to be able to put the ball in the back of the net, to have a chance of actually winning a game.

“So glad I didn’t make the long trip down and I feel for those who did.”

Paul Lyon:

“Another 1-0 loss due to the dearth of quality in our squad.

“The fear is this will be the case for the remainder of the season.

“We offer very little reaction to conceding a goal.

“There’s an acceptance to defeat throughout the squad that needs addressing by strong leadership ASAP!”

Notts Toon

“Not a cup to drink from or a pot to pi** in.

“Well done Mike!”

Leazes Park Ender:

“Depressingly predictably outcome and that’s the FA Cup gone for another year.

“The feel of Nufc at the moment is one of pure decline.

“The game much like others of late – miss a few sitters then get punished.

“Right now all Newcastle Utd are bringing on this proud city is pain and embarrassment.

“The manager can’t get wins and at boardroom level the strategic approach remains deeply flawed.

“We’re sinking without a trace.

“The decision makers have made so many blunders they deserve this mess and it doesn’t warrant staying in the top flight.”

Jamie Swan:

“If the scantily clad ghost of the late Cilla Black had abseiled in through my bedroom window and serenaded me with a beyond the grave version of ‘Surprise surprise’ – it would have surprised me less than seeing NUFC get through to the 4th round of the FA Cup.

“Another year, another failure. We couldn’t score in Greys club.”
